In "Fortune Cookie" he was miscast. Playing an idiot in a hospital bed, on the advice of Walter Mattheau.
Mattheau was the one who was supposed to be in the hospital bed, not Lemmon. During filming he had a heart attack and by the time he was able to resume filming, he had lost 30 pounds.
